A new job and the journey ahead...

I've been doing a lot of research on new jobs. I really want to get into healthcare and not wait on tables anymore. I've been thinking about doing Phlebotomy. If I take the class from IHC they will pay me minimum wage to train and then once I'm done they will pay me $10.65 and give me benefits. I do have to complete so many hours otherwise I have to reimburse them, but they also guarantee you a job so it isn't really a problem. Plus I won't have to work full time which means I could still go to school and I would actually be making enough money to go! I just hope I can get the requirements done before the application is gone to get in. It also fulfills the "patient exposure" requirement for medical school which is a huge bonus!

I also want to have an excuse to get out of volunteering. It has been easy and nice to have time to study, but people can be so rude. Like just now the ICU is closed and no one is allowed back there. This lady comes up and tells me they are the mother of so-and-so and I explained to her the ICU was closed and NO ONE is allowed back there. She then says " well there isn't an exception for mothers?" and I again had to explain NO ONE is allowed back there. She then walks over to sit down and says how ridiculous it is she can't go in. Come on people, if we make an exception for you then we have to make one for all so I wouldn't count on it happening. Grrr!

My body is falling apart. I feel like I got hit by a car. I twisted my knee last week during a soccer game which has only seemed to get more uncomfortable and then last night at my game I believe I broke my big toe. It is super swollen, bruised and kills to bend it (or what little I can). Then my arm hurts and I'm not sure why. If I slept wrong or got hit into the wall at my game too hard or what. Dunno? I have to work 2 more days too. This should be fun....

Well I have a lot of thoughts on my plate right now about what I should do with the rest of my years which is causing me stress. I'm going to take up running since that is the only way I can clear my head. Plus it is good for me too, course I have to wait for my toe to get better. That might be a little hard... Ha ha

I should be in bed...

...but instead I'm writing how frustrated I am with life choices. How stupid and lazy I was in my younger years. Not that I'm old by any means, but yeah, you get it. For some reason all I could think about tonight was if I had taken Math 1060 right out of high school, I would not be in the tight situation I am in with school right now. I would have less pressure and stress of having to learn my math all over again. Today in the paper was an article about WSU raising tuition AGAIN! GRRRR!!! I could understand if I was getting better education and what-not but I'm not. They are pricing me right out of school! Greedy!!!

Don't get me wrong here....It has been nice living with my parents to help take care of Ollie, but it is getting to the point of I'm going insane. I feel like a "teen mom." I would really like to find a place of my own where Ollie has the space to crawl, walk, play as much as he wanted without the worry of the animals (and whatever comes with having animals), getting into something he shouldn't, etc. I'm worried Ollie has slept in our room for too long now that it is going to be a nightmare trying to get him to sleep in a separate room of his own. I'm sick of being treated like I'm not doing enough for my child or it isn't good enough.

I'm trying to do what I can for my child. I've been applying to jobs for 3 years now, over 100 applications or resume emailed, 3 interviews and no new job. I go to school which is super expensive to get myself in a field where I CAN get a job. A job that will actually pay for us to have things: home, food, car, clothes, a bulldog? :D

In summary you can't get a job without the education and experience which you can't get without having the job. You can't get the education unless you have a job that pays well to pay for the education. WTF?! How frustrating....

What is wrong with that?!

I'm really getting sick of the "you're too skinny" comments. Yes, I lost weight after I had Ollie. Yes, I didn't gain any of it back (YAY!). So what is wrong with that?! I've gone to my doctor who didn't say anything about my weight and how low it is. I work out, play soccer and when the weather gets nicer I'll be running outside and playing with Ollie therefore I'll probably be just as thin as I am now. I don't really care for junk food. You will rarely see me eat potato chips or candy because honestly I just don't crave it that often. I DO eat just like everyone else. I eat breakfast, sometimes lunch (unless I'm at work) and dinner every day. I don't have an eating disorder or anything like that so seriously get over it. Sincerely- me. :)

Crazy kid

How my baby is turning into such a kid! He has 8 teeth now- 4 on top and 4 on bottom although some are not all the way "in." He is learning how to pull himself up to stand which is a good sign he'll be walking soon. My dad has been doing Donald Duck voice to him and he has been trying to mock it which just sounds like a person who is possessed by the devil. Funny yet somewhat scary at the same time. He'll stand up in his crib when I'm watching TV in bed with the lights off and go "Mama" in his "Donald Duck voice." Creeps me out. :D

I'm working all week this week. 6 shifts in 6 days. It sucks but I need the money. I also have a soccer game tonight at 11:30 and volunteering on Thursday night. Plus class tomorrow and Thursday morning. I'm going to be exhausted. Also waiting for Lauren to have her baby since her due date is tomorrow which is also Jenny's birthday. (Happy b-day!) Way to pile everything into the next couple weeks.

I called McKay Dee to start physician shadowing and I'm getting blown off by the girl in charge. She was somewhat short with me when I spoke to her and acted like she was just swamped which honestly I don't think she wanted to do anything. I can't do anything though until I fill out her paper work that is almost like the paper work for volunteering. If I have time tomorrow I'm going to call her again, I think she's had enough time to get back to me.

I have broke out into hives all over my legs and arms. Not really sure what it's from since I haven't changed anything, but I'm going crazy trying to NOT itch them. I've had them for 2 days now and I'm hoping they'll just go away on their own so I don't have to go to the doctor. My swollen lymph node is gone though which is great news!

I'm going to go job search now....peace

Just go away!

We have been some serious sick people. Andy started off the year by getting strep which he got over pretty fast once he went to the doctor. Ollie followed with a cold that is still going. He has been very congested and coughing up mucus. Gross! Andy then went to the doctor for his stomach in which he found he has a colon problem that may require surgery later this year. For now though, he is on antibiotics. I got a stomach virus which prevented me from getting out of bed for two days. I missed work and school. I was given medicine on a Wednesday so I could stop having nausea and was told to come back if I didn't feel better. Following Monday I was back to the doctor because my ears hurt and my throat was killing me. She found I had an infection between my ear and throat. Therefore putting me on antibiotics. Well, as the days have gone my congestion, ear pain and sore throat have decreased while my lymph node has decided to swell. When I was younger I had to have one removed from my upper neck and now it is back.

Swollen lymph nodes can start because of an infection or virus or antibiotics so I'm definitely in the running for getting one since I've had all three. It hurts pretty bad though. It hurts to stretch or turn my neck to a certain degree. I'm giving it a little time to go down on it's own, but since it didn't when I was younger I don't have high hopes. I really don't want to go back to the doctor, but I might have to. I'm just hoping we are all going to be healthy again VERY soon.

GPA-MCAT-MD-ABC?!

I knew getting into medical school was going to be complicated, but I didn't know it was going to be like this. This semester I'm taking a class taught by Dr. Goff and Dr. Moesinger. It like a " I wish I would have known or done this before medical school" kind of thing. We went through the stats of medical school and how much competition there is. I'm not sure if my professor was trying to discourage people or what, but after her lecture about how some people never make it, I still felt confident.

I'm also taking Human Physiology which is awesome! I'm actually doing amazingly well. I've aced 3 quizzes so far and I have high hopes for the exam this weekend. This may be why I'm feeling pretty good about everything right now- hope it continues!

I'm hopefully going to be signing up to physician shadow pretty soon. I really want to excel in everything so I have the best chances for getting in. I've been researching different medical schools and different programs. Of course University of Utah is my first choice. Others to follow would be University of Colorado and possibly Oregon and Seattle (WA).

I'm sick of being stuck in the same spot. I can't wait to get this going. Not only for me, but for Ollie too. I want the best life for him and this is a great way to do it.

Okay...now back to the books!

2011

Oh boy...a new year! See ya later 2010...you won't be missed. Sure there were some good things and not so good things. I started off the year with the most amazing experience to date....having Ollie! I got almost 5 weeks off of work. :D Though...Ollie didn't come out without problems so we had the long journey of hospital trips every day so make sure he was okay. Lauren got married in June and it was so nice! Another friend Jenny had her baby girl Trinity in July and soon thereafter my friends, Lauren, Lindsay and Torie, announced their pregnancies. All due this year! Andy and I celebrated our 1st year anniversary of being married and our 8th year anniversary of being "together."

I've had some moments of my fights with certain relatives and idiotic professors. Then to finish the year I slid on black ice into a UTA short bus...NOT causing any damage not even a scratch. After UTA said they didn't want me to be cited since I can't control mother nature. The Ogden ass said "I have to give you a ticket. It's the law." which we all know is a bunch of crock! Therefore getting me in a fight with him too...

We did ring in the new year with the Thorsted clan. We ate, played BS, Wise or Otherwise and then the boys played a game while Jenna, Ollie and I hung out & talked. It was fun! It was nice to see them when they come into town from WI!

For the new year I didn't make any resolutions. For one I never follow through with them and second I don't remember them to do them! LOL So let's just say I have "hopes" for this year. Andy and I are going to take a trip in the summer to California (probably) and maybe later take Ollie to Colorado. We love it there and we've been taking about how we miss it. I hope to complete most of my studies at WSU for the last time. Then take the MCAT. My goal is to apply in 2012 to medical school.

Ollie turns ONE! We'll be throwing him a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse b-day party with friends and family. I'm pretty excited and I hope it turns out well!

OK big day tomorrow. I got lab, Ollie's doctor appt for his one year and soccer so off I go. :D
